Day 1: Arrive in Auckland. Kia ora – welcome to beautiful New Zealand! Meet your guide and your travel crew this evening and learn all about the amazing adventures we’ve got planned!

Day 2: Auckland orientation and Waiheke Island. Get to know beautiful Auckland today on an orientation tour. Then we’ll get you set up with the essentials for working and living in NZ after the trip is over. After this you will hop on the ferry to beautiful Waiheke Island where we’ll explore, cool off in the ocean and enjoy a beach BBQ before heading back to Auckland ready for a night out.

Day 3: Waitomo, Hobbiton & Rotorua. Our first stop today is at the famous glow-worm caves of Waitomo. We’ll see the fairy-tale caves by boat - prepare to be amazed by the surreal underground landscape. Next stop is Hobbiton. Take a tour of the real-life movie set and enjoy a drink at the Green Dragon Inn, before continuing to Rotorua.

Day 4: Rotorua hot springs. Welcome to New Zealand’s thermal wonderland. First on the menu is Kerosene Creek, a natural hot spring, then we’ll head to Wai-O-Tapu, a surreal landscape shaped by geo-thermal activity. The rest of the afternoon is yours – why not have a go at zorbing?

Day 5: Rotorua thermal pools and Maori village. See more of Rotorua’s volcanic treasures this morning with hot springs, bubbling pools of mud and natural ‘foot spas’. In the afternoon immerse yourself in the traditional culture at a Maori village.

Day 6: Taupo & sunset sail. Make tracks for the lakeside town of Taupo. We’re taking a very special sunset sail tonight across Lake Taupo – cameras at the ready!

Day 7: Huka Falls & hot springs. Today we’re hitting Huka Falls. Marvel at the natural spectacle of tons of water thundering down from the Waikato River before relaxing in some natural hot pools – bliss.

Day 8: Back to Auckland and work planning session. Head back to Auckland today for an onward travel and work planning session. Tonight, we’ll get the crew together one last time for a farewell dinner and a final night out on the town.

Day 9: Time to start the job hunt! The adventure is only just beginning! For those staying on to live and work in NZ, our jobs team will be here to support you every step of the way.

The trip kicks off on day 1 in Auckland. Fly into Auckland International Airport (AKL), where you will receive an airport-shuttle transfer to the starting accommodation. There are no activities planned until the welcome meeting this evening, so arrive at a time that suits you.

We finish up on day 9 in Auckland as well. There are no activities planned for today. You’ll need to arrange your transport to your next stop or further accommodation in Auckland. Your group leader can help with all of this.

Just a reminder that even though your trip is starting in the North Island, you will get 12 months unlimited job support and help finding jobs in every part of New Zealand included with this programme.

Where you'll be staying...

8 nights’ accommodation are included on this trip. Accommodation will be in some specially selected, centrally located hostels, where you will share rooms with 4-6 people on a mixed sex basis.

  • 3 nights in Auckland at the Lylo Auckland –a friendly pod-style hostel with shared kitchenette and modern, comfy shared spaces.
  • 3 nights in Rotorua at YHA - with outdoor deck and within walking distance to the geothermal Kuirau Park
  • 2 nights in Taupo YHA Hostel - a well-equipped, comfy hostel with lake views

These are the usual accommodations groups will stay at during the trip. On certain occasions, alternative accommodation may be used.

Long-term accommodation options

If you’re staying on in New Zealand to live and work, you’ll need to arrange your own accommodation after the 9 day trip is over. You’ll get lots of advice on how to find places to live during the planning session on day 8. Most travellers who stay in New Zealand either end up sharing an apartment with other travellers that they meet on our trips or extend their stay in a hostel. Renting tends to work out more cheaply, and you’ll have your own room, which may not always be the case in a hostel. However, hostels are more flexible if you’re looking to move around more, and lower rates can usually be negotiated for longer term stays.

Meals

4 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 2 dinners are included on this trip. You’ll need to cover the rest of your meals, snacks and drinks yourself. This means you’ve got the flexibility to eat where and when you like, and to try a wide variety of New Zealand’s diverse cuisine. Alternatively, you can prepare meals for yourself in the hostel kitchens if you’re on a tight budget.

You need to be a minimum of 18 years old to join this trip. This trip is designed for travellers aged 18-35.

For those wanting to work in New Zealand you need to be between 18 and 30, due to Working Holiday Visa restrictions. British citizens can select from either a 12 month, 23 month or 36 month visa.

To be eligible for a Work Visa, you must:

  • Hold a valid passport
  • Be aged between 18 and 35 years old
  • Have NZD$4200 of funds to support yourself during your trip
  • Have a return ticket or sufficient funds to buy a ticket
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Not previously have been approved a permit or visa under a Working Holiday scheme
  • Your passport should be valid for a minimum of three months from your date of exit

Not eligible for a working holiday visa? You can still visit New Zealand as a tourist and do the travel only version of this tour. Check out the New Zealand Adventure

All visa, passport and entry restrictions are subject to change. Please check the most up to date rules with the embassy before travel.
