This is an adventure tour involving camping and lots of participation, including setting up camp, as
well as shopping, cooking and other camp duties. It’s a lot of fun, but best suited to travellers looking
for a bit of a challenge. The transport is a really unique feature of this trip too, with most of our
journeys undertaken in our 24-seat custom-built safari vehicle. Most of our game park visits are carried out using smaller 4x4 vehicles provided by local services so you can get up close and personal
with the wildlife.

Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara Reserve (Kenya).
We’ve got a long journey ahead of us (5 hours) so
stock up on snacks and download your fave playlists! Our home for the next two nights is a tented
camp on the edge of the Maasai Mara Reserve. Settle in and enjoy dinner and drinks with the gang.

Day 2: Maasai Mara Reserve. Explore the ‘Mara’ in 4x4 game vehicles today. The region is home to
the ‘Big 5’ and you’ve got a good chance of seeing lions, rhinos, elephants, buffalos, and leopards as
well as countless other species. Return to camp after the most amazing day as the sun begins to set.

Day 3: Maasai Mara reserve to Nairobi. Hop back into our over-landing adventure vehicle as we
return to Kenya’s bustling capital via the Great Rift Valley (5 hours). We’ll be staying on a campsite in
the leafy suburb of Karen, away from the city’s hustle and bustle.

Day 4: Nairobi to Arusha (Tanzania). Cross over into Tanzania today, headed for the buzzing town
of Arusha (5 hours). Get your haggle on in some of the local curio markets, before settling into our
camp just outside town. Take a walk to one of the local Maasai villages this afternoon if time allows.

Day 5: Arusha to Serengeti National Park. Head west across the Great Rift Valley to the majestic
Serengeti (full day’s driving including game drives). We’ll circle round the Ngorongoro Crater’s rim
and onto the Serengeti plains with incredible wildlife spotting opportunities. Gather round the fire at
our campsite tonight, where we’ll fall asleep after dinner to the sound of lions roaring.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater. We’re heading out of the plains today, game driving as we go! We’ll be
spending the night camping on the Ngorongoro rim with incredible views across the acacia tree
peppered landscape. Join your travel buddies round the campfire tonight for drinks and dinner.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha. We’re up early for a morning of game driving in Ngorongoro
Crater. It’s a steep dirt track down to the crater floor where we’ll have the chance to see almost all
the major African mammals before heading back to Arusha (3 – 4 hours).

Day 8: Arusha to Bagamoyo. It’s another early start today as we travel south to Bagamoyo (11
hours) with views of the snowy peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro. Explore the historic town when we
arrive, or just relax in the beachside camp over dinner and drinks with your travel buddies.

Day 9: Bagamoyo to Dar Es Salaam. Head south to Dar es Salaam (2 – 3 hours). Spend the night by
the beach, just outside the city, swimming in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, sipping cocktails
from the bar, or just watching the fishermen sail past in their dhows.

Day 10: Zanzibar Island, Stonetown. Cross the ocean to exotic Zanzibar where we’ll spend the first
night in the capital, Stone Town. Pick up some unique souvenirs from the bazaars, lose yourself in
the maze of narrow streets or join an optional tour to the nearby spice plantations.

Days 11 - 12: Zanzibar Island, northern beaches. If you’re a beach bum you’ll be in heaven over the
next couple of days as we head to the north of the island. Bliss out on the sugar-white sands, snorkel
over the colourful coral gardens or just chill in a hammock with a good book.

Day 13: Zanzibar to Dar Es Salaam. You’ll have the morning to put the finishing touches to your tan
before it’s time to say goodbye to paradise as we board the ferry back to Dar es Salaam. Our tour
ends back on the mainland.

The trip starts on day 1 in Nairobi, Kenya. Due to the early departure time on day 1, you’ll need to fly into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) the day before the trip begins and book a pre-trip night of accommodation with the help of your travel advisor (see accommodation section for more info). Airport transfers are not included so you’ll need to make your own way from the airport to your starting accommodation. Taxi is the easiest way to undertake the 18km journey and takes 20 – 40 minutes depending on traffic.

The trip ends on day 13 in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. It’s recommended that you book an additional night of accommodation after the tour is over. Once you’re ready to head home you can either book a flight direct from Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) or fly back to where we started in Nairobi before catching a connecting flight. Return airport transfers are not included so you’ll need to arrange transport to the airport yourself. Taxi takes around 20 minutes and is the most convenient option.

Accommodation

This tour departs Nairobi early on day 1, and your welcome meeting is held at 18.00 the previous evening, so you will need to arrive in Nairobi the day before the tour departs.

12 nights of accommodation are included. 7 days camping in 2-person dome tents, 2 nights bush camping in pre-erected tents at Serengeti/Ngorongoro (equipment supplied) and 3 nights in a hotel.

When camping, you will be in 2-person dome tents with fly sheets, sewn-in ground sheets, zip-up insect screens and foam mattresses. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag and a small pillow should you wish for one. You will mostly be staying on campsites with washing and shower facilities, toilets, electricity points and sometimes even a small shop, bar or swimming pool.

Upgraded Accommodation

If you would prefer to stay in hotels, rather than camp, there is the option to upgrade on this tour for extra cost. Please contact us for more details

Pre and post trip accommodation

It is recommended that you arrive at least a day before departure and book an additional night’s accommodation at your own cost. We also recommend that you plan an extra night after your tour is over. Your travel advisor can help you book this.

Meals

Most meals are included on this tour. Travellers on the shorter tour route will have 12 breakfasts, 9 lunches and 9 dinners included.

This trip is an open-aged experience that caters for a mix of younger and older travellers. This means that you may travel with people who are outside your own age group. Such a mix of ages creates a great group dynamic and enhances the travel experience, as you get to know a range of people with different stories to tell!

Kenya: You need a visa to enter Kenya. Kenyan entry visas are exclusively issued electronically, with passengers required to obtain their e-visas before departure. Your passport should be valid for 6 months from the date you arrive and should have at least two blank pages on arrival.

Tanzania: All British passport holders need a tourist or business visa to enter Tanzania. Tanzania has introduced an ‘e-visas’ system through which applications can be submitted and approved online in advance of travel. It is also possible to get a tourist or business visa for a single entry on arrival at main ports of entry to Tanzania, subject to the fulfilment of all immigration requirements. You may be asked to provide proof of your return journey. You will not be able to get a multiple entry visa on arrival. Your passport should be valid for 6 months from the date you arrive. Those entering Zanzibar will need to obtain mandatory Inbound Travel Insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) for the duration of their stay on the island of Zanzibar. This will be in addition to your own standard travel insurance policy covering the whole of your trip. Entry to Zanzibar may be refused if you have not purchased a ZIC policy. Please see the Tanzania Embassy website or FCDO for details.
